How did the Viking Spirit Scholarship get started?

We are a small group of classmates who share a common appreciation for the good start we received at CHS and a fondness for the area in general. Most of us can point to someone in our past who helped us get started in life. This is our chance to be that someone for others!

How can I get involved?

The scholarship is ready to go for 2025. At this time, we are trying to raise enough funds to make this a yearly occurrence. Any donations are appreciated and all contributors will be noted on the website.

Who's on the Scholarship Committee?

The committee has 7 members made up from classes ranging from 1966, 1979 and 1995.

How will the scholarship candidate be selected?

The Foundation will publicize the scholarship application to school district counselors. The counselors will then be able to direct students to apply. The committee will then review applicants to make the final selection.

What are the qualifications for the scholarship?

The qualifications include a combination of leadership qualities demonstrated in the classroom and/or community, a written essay, and a grade point average of 2.5 or above.

How is the money distributed?

The scholarship is distributed directly to the institution to which each student is accepted.

How long are we raising funds for this scholarship?

With the funds already donated, we were able to provide a graduating senior in the class of 2025 with $1,000.  In 2026 we were able to provide 5 students with $1,000 each toward their future schooling. With the help of alumni, friends and family, we have the potential to create an endowed scholarship that will have a long-reaching impact on future CHS graduates.
